BOARD CERTIFIED PHYSICIAN SPECIALISTS
Performs medical work in a specialized medical field within a custody setting.
Treats inmates with a wide variety of medical problems.
Prescribes drugs and/or therapy; monitors patients' progress, records observations and changes, and adjusts treatments as required.
Reviews laboratory, radiological data, and other diagnostic data. Uses a computer to document patient notes.
Consults with staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding care of patients and medical and diagnostic work performed.
Provides consultation to other medical services, including specialists in other fields.
Performs or assists in carrying out administrative responsibilities, which may include such duties as developing and revising work procedures to expedite work load or improve level of service.
Develops new techniques within the medical specialty.
Maintains varied hours on a rotated schedule with other physicians to ensure that there is always a physician on-site during non-business hours to answer medically related calls.
Drives to any Sheriff’s Department custody facility when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Board certification is required in one or more of the following specialties:
Dermatology Emergency Medicine Family Practice Internal Medicine-General/Endocrinology Internal Medicine-Cardiology (Invasive) Internal Medicine-Cardiology (Non-Invasive) Internal Medicine-Critical Care Internal Medicine-Gastro (Invasive) Internal Medicine-Gastro (Non-Invasive) Internal Medicine-Hematology/Oncology Internal Medicine-Infectious Disease Internal Medicine-Nephrology Internal Medicine-Pulmonary (Invasive) Internal Medicine-Pulmonary (Non-Invasive) Internal Medicine-Rheumatology Neurology Obstetrics and Gynecology-General Obstetrics and Gynecology-Gynecologic Oncology Obstetrics and Gynecology-Maternal/Fetal Medicine Otolaryngology Pathology Pathology-Forensic Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Preventive Medicine Radiology-General/Diagnostic Radiology-Vascular/Internal Diagnostic Surgery-Cardio Thoracic Surgery-General Surgery-Neurological Surgery-Ophthalmology Surgery-Orthopedics Surgery-Plastic Surgery-Urologic Surgery-Vascular
