The Disability Representative/PPO Coordinator is a consultant, liaison, and facilitato! r for the provider, patient, hospital, insurance company and disability office. Receives, reviews, and processes all types of disability forms and obtains authorization for all procedures as required by PPO and EPO insurance plans for Sutter Gould Medical Foundation.
Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF)is a non-profit, multi-specialty health care organization affiliated with Sutter Health. Based in Modesto, SGMF provides quality medical care, health education and research activities in a five-county area. SGMF's medical staff includes family practitioners, internists and pediatricians, as well as a range of specialist physicians. Services include imaging, nuclear medicine, a health library, health education programs, occupational medicine, diabetes education, nutrition counseling, infertility counseling, and weight management.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Successful completion of Medical Terminology course of equivalent ! experience preferred. Completion of MA course preferred. Requi! res previous experience reviewing medical charts, deciphering provider's chart notes and answering questions from the medical review nurse and disability caseworker in regards to previous medical treatment and status of disability claims. Requires an understanding on how different medical insurances are processed. Requires previous experience providing excellent customer service to patients, physicians, nurses, state and private disability offices, and insurance companies. Previous fee-for- service insurance billing experience preferred. Previous experience working in a physician office is preferred, working as either as a medical assistant or biller. Basic coding is required. Ability to interpret and complete different types of disability forms including state and federal forms. Good understanding of coding in order to match ICD-9 with CPT codes to support the provider(s) when needed. Good understanding and the ability to use CPT, HCPC and ICD-9 codes when conversing with ! the medical review nurses or the disability case workers. Must have proficient knowledge of medical terminology. Basic knowledge of insurance billing in a multi-specialty medical group required. Must have a good understanding of fee-for-service and HMO insurance guidelines. Ability to practice established Sutter Gould Medical Foundation safety standards; maintain patient and employee confidentiality. Knowledge of computers and applications and skill in the operation of other office equipment. Ability to provide excellent Customer Service to Sutter Gould Medical Foundation customers including physicians, nurses, patients, insurance companies, state and federal offices, co-workers and Sutter Health affiliates; possess proficient communication skills both verbally and written; ability to coordinate multiple tasks requiring decision-making skills. Ability to review chart notes with the medical review nurse and answer questions regarding previous medical treatment. Decision maki! ng skills and the ability to organize and prioritize workflow; ability ! to work independently with little supervision and to meet deadlines and timelines set by policy and procedure. Ability to be accurate and pay close attention to detail; ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and to maintain a clear and safe work environment. Maintain confidentiality regarding the release of medical information according to legal requirements and guidelines. Ability to learn new computer systems used in the performance of the job and to efficiently operate PC's and other office equipment. Requires someone who can be flexible in their work hours to meet the needs of the job.
