Description: Saint John's Health Center is employing Santa Monica Orthopedic Group - Clinical Assistant right now, this job will be placed in California. Under the general supervision of the Clinic Director Physician Podiatrist, the Clinical Assistant works as a team with physicians Scheduling Specialist and other administrative associates to organize and coordinate the physician’s individual practice. The Clinical Assistant will prepare patients for the physician’s visit by preparing the patient room, taking patient history, ordering x-rays, scheduling surgeries, and other Clinical Assistant related duties.

Position Requirements
Experience: •Minimum 1 year previous Clinical Assistant experience pre! ferred.
Licensing/Certification/Registration:
•Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card required.
•Medical Assistant certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:
•Knowledge and ability to understand basic medical terminology.
•Ability to deal effectively with many people across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and ages.
•Ability to work independently with little or minimal supervision.
•Basic computer experience and software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
•Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work.
•Ability to work effectively with many people at various levels of the organization.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize.
•Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external customers, including, but not limited to, patients, co-workers, management, physicians,! and visitors.
•Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance to hospital policy.
Position Attributes
•Prepares the patient exam room, takes history, vital signs as needed and orders x-rays.
•Directs patients to exam rooms; assists in preparing patients for examination; assists patients on and off of the exam table. Notifies provider of patient’s arrival and readiness.
•Applies and removes dressings under the direction of the provider.
•Processes specimens obtained by the provider.
•Helps the patient facilitate any necessary diagnostic tests recommends by the physician.
•Ensures all tests and surgical procedures are sent for pre-certification.
•Assists with the management of non-controlled medications in the clinic including:
•Maintains quality control of medications:
Checks and pulls outdated medications
Stocks each suite with necessary medication
•Holds keys to l! ocked cabinet during clinic hours
•Retrieves medication per phys! ician or podiatrist order
•Draws and labels single medication injections under the direction of a physician or podiatrist
•Ensures multi-dose vials are labeled with appropriate expiration date at first use
•Ensures proper disposal of remaining medication. Provides patient with all prescriptions at physician requests.
•Completes booking and tracing slips for all surgical procedures.
•Schedules surgeries.
•Completes all surgery paperwork, mails to patient and faxes to internist for pre-op.
•Enters all pre-op, surgical, and post-op appointments in scheduling software.
•Orders required equipment from vendor for surgery.
•Prepares surgical chart for the physician to dictate history and physicals and prints X-rays for surgery.
•Updates the physicians’ outlook calendar with all surgical cases and patient information.
•Communicates with the physician when last minute changes occur on the schedules.
! •Performs as needed essential duties of a Scheduling Specialist:
•Answers all incoming calls.
•Schedules appointments for patients.
•Helps patient facilitate scheduling of any diagnostic tests.
•Takes messages and emails the physician with necessary information to return the call.
•Obtains dictation from transcriptionist, files and returns chart to medical records.
•Updates the physicians’ outlook calendar with all appointments, meetings, etc.
•Opens and distributes mail as appropriate.
•Inputs authorization requests for all HMO’s.
•Covers other administrative associates during their lunch.
•Complies with clinic, department standards including, but not limited to, safety, infection prevention, quality management, environmental, confidentiality, and patient care.
•Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regard to:
Attendance, punctuality and patient! confidentiality.
Creates a positive public relation image and wor! king relationships.
Obtains necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence and certifications where required.
Completes all mandatory requirements, including annual safety programs and annual physical.
Participates in the development and attainment of goals including:
Attending and participating in department meetings.
Volunteering or accepting assignments for projects.
Mission, vision and department ground rules.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Fax, photocopy, and other administrative duties.
